I have a 1999 miata manual 5-speed with 148k miles. Recently, when I take my car out of gear to slow down my engine idles up and down and will even stall out while driving. I have had the MAF sensor cleaned and I have changed the fuel filter. Any thoughts from simplest to more complex?

Did you change the air filter?
Did you pressure test the fuel line?

Reving up and down is the engine attempting to compensate for a air leak from my understanding. Smoke test to confirm.
