My 2022 Corolla hatchback totaled

I was rear ended at a stop light at 20 MPH by a Tesla.

I’m a bit sore, but my Corolla hatchback with a manual is a total loss.

The real question is can I trust a Toyota CVT or order an another manual ?

I can get a new CVT Corolla by next week, but a manual is three months away. Plus my 1969 AMX is not a good daily driver at 9 MPG

You can trust it, but it won't last as long

Me personally, I'd find a way to wait the three months for the manual transmission.  I just prefer the manual transmission. But if you need a car ASAP, a CVT from Toyota is probably one of the better CVT's compared to other CVT's. But not compared to a manual.

BTW, how in the world did a Tesla rear end you!? Aren't they supposed to have some auto braking type of technology? LOL. You probably don't know the answer to that, these are just rhetorical questions.

I was under the impression manual transmissions were no longer offered on new model year Corollas?   In any event, if they still offer a manual and you have been fine living with a manual on a daily basis (some people can’t handle it esp. in traffic), then I would go ahead and get the manual.   In the long run, it will outlast the CVT.  As a bonus, it will make it harder to steal your vehicle since most Millenials don’t know how to drive a manual.

I hear you, but the dealership claims a three month wait. I have another car and it’s a 1969 AMX and the insurance company will not rent me a car for three months

I don’t know the details of your situation, but if you plan to keep the Corolla for as long as possible (like Scotty and others like myself) I would do everything in my power to get the manual transmission including driving the AMX in the meantime.

.

You will have to do the math and see what 3 months waiting will cost you and compare that to the cost (parts and labor) of a new CVT transmission in the future - which will be more than $4,000.  Also, plan for transmission fluid replacement every 30,000 miles in your math.

.

Then again, if you don’t plan to keep the Corolla for a long time and/or put too many miles on it, then you might be just fine with a CVT Corolla.  Make sure you test drive a CVT first before buying.  I personally can’t stand CVTs on any car!
