When he bought it from the dealership they said it had 127,000 miles on it. The odometer later read 147,000. In addition to that, he thought it seemed a little fast, so we tested it, and sure enough, the speedometer is reading about 5mph above the actual speed in town & 10mph above on the highway. Is there any way to figure out what the original mileage is?

I dont know specfic about this car.
If the car has this feature . A scan tool for obd2 port and it will give you the mileage from the car but you need the car and the tool which is expensive to do this.
Ask the to look at the service books and this should tell you if the car been serviced and the miles have been tampered with at the dealership u bought it from.
