When he bought it from the dealership they said it had 127,000 miles on it. The odometer later read 147,000. In addition to that, he thought it seemed a little fast, so we tested it, and sure enough, the speedometer is reading about 5mph above the actual speed in town & 10mph above on the highway. Is there any way to figure out what the original mileage is?

If its consistently about 10mph higher, and that's important, then logically its mileage should be about 90% of what it reads. The catch of course is this would have had to be the case since the car hit the road. If you don't know when it started, its a guessing game at best (I think...)
