Looks like he has his mind made up about the Traverse.  Does he plan on trading it in after a few years or does he want to keep beyond 100,000 miles?  If I were him I’d own it only under warranty, and then before the standard warranty expires get an extended warranty.  Realize too that Traverse has the new GM-designed 9 speed AT which is still not true and tried, and if you know anything about their 8-speed AT they struggled royally with that.

No to the old BMW, unless mechanically inclined and going to do all the work yourself.

Now the reality is that neither a new Chevy SUV nor a 17 year old BMW is a smart idea for reliability. If your father wants the Chevy, he should own it with the reaility that it might not last that much beyond 100k.

ima be honest about this one, the tranverse/enclave/arcadia all 3 of them have 3.6l/3.0l timeing chain problems, they dont snap but they can start an odd sound and putting an time chain is hard because we have an 2010 enclave for under 110k miles and replace a new one and its difficult cause you have to take it off and put it back on (but we put it back after fixing it), but if he knows what hes doing then thats ok, if not DONT even getting one, but if yall gonna use it for weekend or often, thats ok but dont use it for daily drive cause then the ignitions coils will do some misfires ane computer wont understand it. (and i guess the reason why he want a chevy instead of the toyota is because of looks and because its american, and ik thats not the point) the highlander are the good cars that toyota made, those things can run forever. bmws are money pits thats all ik from that, i hope this helps alot
