My first '13 Honda CRV, What should I be worried about?

Hey,

I found a 2013 Honda CRV at 60k miles that I am getting ready to buy as its the best deal/age/miles I have found. What should I look out for? I have always gotten the impression that the Hondas are great but their transmissions tend to die at 100k miles. Is that a myth? Or is there some part that tends to go out that might be cheaper to fix before it grenades the transmission?

Hondas overall are very dependable vehicles. However, you’re correct about their automatic transmissions. Being that the CR-V doesn’t come with a standard transmission any longer, I would say just make sure you’re maintaining your trans properly. Change the fluid at least every 50k. Other than the transmission though, it’s a solid built car, and considering it only has 60k it’s got plenty of life left in it and should last you another 250k or so with proper maintenance.

And before putting any money down, show the car to a mechanic to make sure you won't be ripped off.

That is 100% a myth.

Thank yourself for not getting the 2015+ with the CVTs.

Change the oil and ATF strictly on time and you'll be fine. I seen these go 250k+ like nothing. I had one on my channel few times with 280k miles, one owner, no issues.

K series engine are bullet proof.

That transmission is a 5 speed and those could easily go 2 300k miles. The CVT's from 2015 and on had some troubles but the modern Honda cars after 2008 or so aren't that bad.
