Honda CRV 2007 hesitating @ 1200rpm when hot

Hello Scotty,

My Honda CRV 2007, 3rd Gen, 2.0 L R20A, automatic transmission, is hesitating when driving or accelerating slow around 1200rpm. But the strange thing is it often happened when the ambient air is hot. Like in summer, or in a traffic jam. Above that rpm all is perfect. Only happened when accelerating slowly and then in 1200rpm, engine stall and hesitate, up and down continuously until it reaches specific speed or I push the throttle into higher rpm.

Here is how it looks like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_A3bcYl793I

I have brought it three times to different mechanics, they scanned it and no error found. The last mechanic said that the throttle body needs to be replaced, but when they swap it to another throttle body to test, it getting worse, so they put again my original throttle body.

what causes this?

Thank you for your answer.

I would clean your throttle body and MAFS. The fact it got worse when he put on a used one means it was dirtier than yours. You can get throttle body and mass air flow cleaner at any auto parts store. Also check your air filter.

Just replaced the air filter, and clean the MAF sensor (I use CAC Maf cleaner as recommended on youtube). and YES, it run smoother now. but still I feel a little bit hesitate when accelerate slowly. very subtle. around 1200 rpm it is not linear with the throttle pedal, a little jerks. but if I accelerate fast it has no problem. But it is much much better now. Thankyou.

When you clean them depending on how dirty they were you sometimes need to take them off the engine. Hard to get inside when it’s bolted on. And you gotta replace the gasket usually when you out it back on. Usually only 3-4 bolts holding it on. If you don’t feel comfortable doing it most shops usually only charge an hour labor. 75-125 at most shops.

Try changing your fuel filter & pressure testing your fuel pump.

Thank you. But the mechanics said nothing wrong with the fuel pump and I cannot test it by myself. Also the strange thing is that it often happened on hot ambient air. If it is rain or colder, like on the night or morning, the hesitation is gone.

Is the AC on when it happens?

on or off all is the same. But when ambient temperature relatively low, it gone.
