My 2017 Acura MDX FWD has Goodyear Assurance Maxlife (245/50R20) put on roughly a month ago as a replacement to the original set of Yokohamas that I purchased to replace my worn out Continental CrossContact LX Sport, which has roughly about 1500 miles on it. I have gotten it rebalanced 3 times and done a rotation and it still shakes the steering wheel at highway speeds. I have both the local Acura dealer and Discount Tires store point fingers back to each other, and this hasn't been resolved. I am really confused and frustrated on what is happening here since the Acura forums are also clueless on what's going on.
For those asking, yes I am still within the new car warranty. And I do have warped front rotors (warped rotors symptoms occur only while braking).
@datechboss101
Check steering dampener.
@Knucle-dragger Will check on that too!
@datechboss101
Mostly it's because of the Disc brake check the front disc brake it's usually happened because of high speeds with cold rainy days the temperatures in the Disc brake changing from hot to cold fast this causes a small tears in surface of the Disc brake by time it causes shaking in the steering wheel in high speeds, that exactly the same happened with my Toyota aurion 2011.
@Alhesnawe
I do have warped rotors (front rotors) and have asked Service Advisors, technicians, buddies, and tire people, and they all said the rotors won't cause this issue. And I did notice that I have a 1 finger gap between the calipers and the back of the wheel rims.
@datechboss101
This is it my friend , change the front disc brake both and say good bey to your problem
@Alhesnawe
Just had AutoNation look at it. They even said I don't got warped rotors. Goodyear is doing the warranty.
This issue came back with the new tires. I also was talking with few people that own the same model MDX as me, and they are saying they are experiencing the same issue and symptoms. One had the OE tires changed to Michelins, and she is experiencing the same issue. I can clearly rule out this is a tire issue.
Have you had the car aligned? Is there any play in the front suspension and steering?
@glen_stet
It was aligned 2 months ago at Honda, and both dealers are saying an alignment is not needed. I personally don't have a floor jack or scissor jack to check for any play or anything at all.
Aye look who it is haha what's up
Did you ever try a roadforce balance?
@mrrangerzr1
Yessir, for the first 2-3 balances! Hunter Road Force Balancer that the local Discount Tires store has. Still giving same issue regardless. Just even had an Autonation dealer do a Road force Balance and the steering wheel shaking at highway speeds still came up. They did gave me documentation that included an inspection and said my MDX is fine.
Just an update on this issue... I did got new sets of tires (Goodyear warrantied them). But I wasn't able to hit the 500 mile mark yet, since I was rear ended by a Toyota Tacoma. However, I have not seen any more of the steering wheel shaking at highway speeds and not needing any rebalancing at all. Hopefully its just a bad batch of tires and I happened to be stuck with 4 tires that probably had internal damage.
