P0012 Code after replacing VVT solenoid

Hi,

I have a 2013 Mazda 6 GS (2.5L 2nd gen) with 112,500 miles (almost 12 years of ownership)
I was getting a VVT Bank 1 fail during obd scan for quite some time and had rough idle at low speeds (e.g, trying to park with my foot on the brake and the car would suddenly jump into high rpm), so I decided to change the VVT solenoid during my recent oil change.

I bought BECK/ARNLEY 0242185 as a replacement. Along with that, I changed the valve cover gasket & the VVT gasket since it was seeing signs of oils around the cover.
While I didn't have 0w20 on hand for the oil change, I decided to use 5w20, considering it was summer. I had planned to replace the oil again before winter hits (within 2 months).

Note: There was NO Check Engine lights present before replacing the VVT solenoid.
Now the check engine light comes on with Code P0012, but I have no misfires, no rougher idle, and the car feels & drives normally, with normal acceleration.

1. does that mean I have a bad solenoid from the factory, or did I ruin it by using the 5w20?
2. would changing the oil back to 0w20 be enough to fix the problem? Or should I replace the solenoid with a new one and change the oil again to 0w20?
3. Can I continue driving with P0012 while waiting for the supplier's resolution? I have contacted RockAuto (where I purchased the part) for a Warranty.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are a number of possible causes for that code aside from the solenoid itself. Did you check them all before replacing the part?
