Hi Scotty,

Would you please provide some suggestions for how to lower the asking price of $2650 on a '97 Camry @ 173,000 miles?

Following are small issues. The exterior looks great other wise!

- 3-inch dent on right-front fender.

- Armrest/console is worn from use.

- Brake system needs to be flushed.

- Minor surface rust on exhaust system & other items under hood.

- Driver's side rear bumper has minor cosmetic damage.

- 4 tires need to be replaced.

Thank you!

I wouldn't buy. The engine in that Camry is prone to oil sludge. With all those problems listed although not major- I would look at something else.

It looks like the engine in the link is for the V6 & is a 3.0 L. The vehicle I'm looking at is a 4 cyl with a 2.2L engine. Do those have reported problems with oil sludge?

Yes. Avoid also.

When he tells you the price, pretend your having a seizure, fall to the ground and offer him $1000.  When he counter offers at $2000, fake a slip and fall on his property and tell him you'll give him $1500 and won't sue him.

I opened the thread hoping you were going to suggest adding a few dings in the doors yourself to bring the price down.

this hood. has too many. dents.

Scotty should have a hammer in his hand.

here's how to pay less for something:

"I can give you $2,000 for it"

Look uninterested.

But only if he throws in 4 new tires.

exactly. And a battery.
