Howdy Folks,
So about a week ago my battery light came on in my 2005 Toyota Matrix with 212k Miles. I checked the battery and could tell it was not charging, but the battery terminals are okay. I went for the easy fix, and check the connector on the alternator to see how it looked, it did look a bit corroded so I cleaned it up some, and the battery light went away. The light came back on a couple of times, but I played with the connector a bit more and it seemed to be the issue so I ordered a new one. I just got the new connector but have not replaced it yet.
It seemed to be fine for now so I went to work and the battery light came back on and no playing with the connector helped, so I tapped the alternator with a small hammer, Battery light went off and I made it home, so I have time to get it fixed right.
My question would be, since the issue seems to be temporarily resolved after I tapped on the alternator, does that point the finger there? Any other testing methods would be welcome.
I just fear if I change the connector, and it appears to be okay that the alternator may be tricking me again.

Sounds like it to me. You may have a loose connection or short circuit internally that the vibration temporarily clears up when you hit it.
That is what I was afraid of, thanks!
