New Civic Type R vs New Integra Type S

Hey Scotty,

Which of these two sports vehicles will hold value better in the long run:  the all new Honda Civic Type R or the all new Acura Integra Type S?  I like them both but I also like the added bonus of higher resale value.  They are both “end of an era” vehicles for Honda Motor Company.  I plan to hold onto one of these for a long time.

.

The Honda is made in Japan while the Acura is made in the US.  But both were designed in Japan.

.
A 1998 Acura Integra Type R with 38,000 miles recently sold for $70,000 on Bring a Trailer.

If you compare used ones, which one is being sold for more?

Both are brand new and have markups.

Noone knows about new cars. Take a gamble and choose one you like.

From your POV, what are the substantive differences between the two? They seem extremely similar.

The CTR is more track focused and rides firm on the street. The ITS is more well-rounded and the "grown up" CTR; it still does well around the track but is more comfortable on the road. I don't care about track performance since I won't be using it for that.

.

From the rear, I like the look of the CTR, but from the front I like the look of the ITS.   As for interior, I think I like the CTR's interior a little better.   Plus, the fact that the CTR was assembled in Japan is a plus over the ITS (which was made in USA).

.
I just want to know which will hold its value better. It's not clear how many of each will be built over the life of this generation. The total number built and the overall demand will dictate future resale value.

Thanks man.

When they came out with the Civic interior dash, I thought it was more fitting for an Acura. Strangely enough, the Integra interior dash looks more fit for a Civic.

It’s so hard to tell which one will be of more value. Perhaps they will both be approximately the same in the long run.

The Acura ITS speaks more to me than the CTR. It’s plenty fast (as fast as the CTR around some tracks) but still more grown up than the CTR. I also may be biased because I own a 2000 Acura Integra.  I just hope it will still be desirable in the far future (and therefore keep its value).
