Hello Scott how are you doing?  First of all I want to thank you for all your valuable advice 🙏.  My questions are:

1- which is better to buy, brand new cars or used cars?

2- if you are looking to buy a vehicle to be for family and for work ( uber, turo etc ) would you prefer regular, hybrid or electric cars?

Thanks

Hoz

Say no to electric cars.  Don't believe the lies.

If you can get a good deal on a used gasoline car, go for it, otherwise, your next best bet would be a new gasoline car. Regarding hybrids, if your plan is to keep the car as long as possible, avoid the hybrids. Forget the electric cars.

Brand new vs used kinda of depends on the car, make & model.

Electric vs gas, well it depends where you are & what you do. If you live in a dense town & less than 100 miles a week, id heavily consider electric. It has many advantages over gas in that situation. Id also still keep a gas car in that case.

Some explanations:
I live in vancouver, Canada.
Some facts :
New cars are expensive
New cars loose the value a lot
New cars has less maintenance
New cars, you know it is clean no one used itso nothing is hiding.
New cars has warranty

Used cars more affordable
More maintenance
Not many sellers are honest so it may be good or break down after short period.

Gas vs electric vs hybrid
Gas cars are cheaper
Hybrid cars are more expensive but you save a bit on gas
Electric cars too expensive pay less on electricity no oil change.

If I want to keep it for about 5-10 years will it worth paying more to buy a hybrid or electric. Or should I stay with gas ?
Thanks for your time

Almost all of these points are valid in any country. Find a good used gasoline car (stick to Toyota or Honda) with good maintenance records and make sure your mechanic checks the car before purchase. If they (Toyota and Honda) are expensive, you can also consider Kia or Hyundai with very low mileage.

1. Used.

2. Regular ICE.

You are saying using for Uber too. Where I live since it's a pretty busy and crowded city and gas is expensive most Uber drivers are driving hybrid (Toyota hybrid) which is a good idea for extensive city driving. But then if you want to keep the vehicle to last 10-15 years gasoline only is a better choice. So you need to see how much gasoline you will save if you go hybrid vs. gasoline only and if it's worth it or not. But if you decide to go hybrid then either new or used with very low mileage.
