Nissan 300ZX Timing Belt

Scotty,

I have a 1994 Nissan 300ZX and had the timing belt replaced in 2004 when the vehicle had 17,000 miles primarily because it was 10 years old and I figured based on age it should probably be done. Now the vehicle has 30,000 miles on the odometer, and its been 17 years since the timing belt was changed. Do you think it should be replaced now or is that just a waste of money?

Signed, old retired guy.

I would just get it checked for any stretch or cracks. If it’s good then I would leave it

Replace it anyway, cheap insurance against a ruined engine.

That’s not a cheap job on that car

You're right R4nier. When I had it done in 2004 i believe it cost something over $900.00. Thus my concern over whether it's really needed. Even just an inspection of the belt would require nearly the labor of going ahead and replacing it given what it takes to get to it.

It may not be a cheap job but it is certainly cheaper than a new engine.
