Nissan Ariya & Solid State Electric Car Battery

Hey Scotty,

I know these days many subscribers aren't fans of Nissan (or Renault, what kind of car is it is it truly these days 🤷).  I had a negative experience with an '11 Altima 2.5S, dumped it for my '18 Accord Touring 2.0T.  What do you think of the Nissan Ariya that's up 'n coming?  My next electric car purchase I'd prefer to be Toyota (as it's rumored they're designing a solid state battery powertrain for their future electric cars.)  What's your take on the two?

Stick to Toyota or Honda. There is almost no hope for Nissan products (at least for gasoline cars).

I would not buy those because they don't have any EV's yet, also don't forget that Honda and GM are partnered up for EV's so I find them more questionable than Nissan

Don't hold your breath. I don't think solid batteries will be read any time soon.

Time will tell how Nissan and eventually Toyota’s EVs do.  I imagine there will be some bugs to sort out the first few years, so avoid being a guinea pig for that.  My advice regarding EVs from any automaker is if someone really wants one to just lease it.  That being said, Toyota has historically made good, reliable vehicles including hybrids (and their electronics hold up well) and I expect their EVs to be similar.  Of course I would wait several years after they unveil their EVs because it’s a whole new platform and technology and will take time to refine and work out the issues.

Hi guys, on a side note, I've heard the battery on the Ariya is made in China, who know what the quality is like......only time will tell.....

Personally, I would ONLY consider it if the ENTIRE car is made in Japan due to QC issues. However, I highly doubted.

no that's only for Chinese markets. The new Ariya I heard for North America is gonna be made in Tochigi Japan, so there is hope. This was announced in December of 2020

It seems very promising and I would also consider one in the future to replace our Ford Focus Electric which has 40k KM. It's looking better than the Leaf which has bad battery technology with passive cooling. Honda, I predict will be trash in the EV game because they partnered up with GM and Toyota is catching up but they are still behind in electrification, but the Rav4 Prime is a good step in the right direction. Also to add a bonus, the new Ariya for North America and some other markets except China will be made in Japan.

also the Ariya has the Liquid Cooling which the Leaf doesn't have.
