They are alright cars, not particularly good after 100k miles but decent until then. The weakest point is the CVT transmission but they have definitely improved. Not enough for me to buy one but they are OK. 

My father had a 1994, it was like a mini rocket ship and I loved that thing. Unfortunately the newer ones aren't as good as they used to be. If you are thinking about buying one, I would look for a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord from the same year before I get near the Maxima.

The newer body style maxima trans have been solid with little to no failures. The maxima has always been more of the higher end Nissan sedan. They are really good cars with very few problems
