Nissan, Mazda or Infiniti

So Im looking at a:

2007 Nissan Altima 6 speed.

2007 Mazda 3 hatchback automatic.

2001 Infiniti I 30 automatic.

All 4 doors and under $3k.

Opinions and feedback please. Btw I already have a 2010 Altima automatic. Trying to avoid the CVT again.

Thank you.

Literally none.

And for $3000, I'm guessing they are high mileage or salvage titles. I never recommend anything but a clean title and none of those cars hold up over the long haul.

Hi David,

Of all three of those cars, I would choose the Mazda. They are fairly solid cars. Nissan has had build quality issues with the cars and parts in the 2000's in general. My father has had a 2007 Nissan Altima with the V6, the VQ engines are fairly solid. He also currently has a 2012 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X (which I use), it has a solid engine (because it is the 4.0 VQ), BUT it has had to have the bumper replaced twice and the axle replaced once. In general, their trucks are decent, but I would stay away from Nissan sedans of that era (IN GENERAL). The Infinity is a decent car but it is just a fancy Nissan, so watch out on build quality (plus, parts and insurance might be expensive, but I dont exactly know). Of all three the Mazda SHOULD be the most reliable plus, Mazda service isnt crazy expensive. It may not have the same features as the Infinity but if you aren't looking for fancy or sporty I would go Mazda, the Mazda 3 is a solid small sedan.

From,

Dylan

EDIT: Overall I agree with Mod_Man for 3k you wont get much.

P.S. I am 15 so feel free to take my opinion with a grain of salt, I completely understand.

Welcome to the forum!

Thanks!

Thanks guys. I welcome all opinions.

I would keep looking. I wouldn't touch those on a ten foot pole.

Why not touch those? Please explain. Also, what about early 2000 (2001-2004) Subaru Forester?

Any used Nissan and Inifiniti is a pain to work on as they age. The Mazda 3 is like a gamble- different transmissions were used (4 auto, 5 auto, 6 auto, 5 manual, 6 manual and CVT) and you don't know which you're getting. Used Subarus were also not the best.

The Infiniti is a good car, what are u talking about? It's literally a more upscale Maxima and the 2001 models are very reliable.

I think you might be a little biased

2000-01 Maxima and I30 are the same car essentially and the 3.0 was an awesome engine as long as you change the oil they will run forever with very few problems. And that year predates Nissan or Infiniti ever using a cvt and the 07 Altima with a manual depending on current condition because of the price point would not be a bad choice the 2.5 is a very easy engine to work on and they didn’t really have much in the way of mechanical engine problems either of them wouldn’t be bad as long as you have them looked over first to make sure your not buying a problem that’s already there

Of those, I’d get the Mazda. Don’t even think about the Infinity. The Altima could be ok if you’re planning to only use it as a cheap knock around car, but honestly if you’re looking for something to use as an everyday driver I’d try and look for something newer, and if reliability and longevity are important to you, I’d definitely recommend something from Mazda, Honda or Toyota.

why? The Infiniti is literally a maxima underneath and its superior to the altima.

Because the Altima is far more reliable especially with the 6-speed than an Infinity with an automatic. I also stated in my response that if he’s looking for a car to daily drive then it’s probably best to look at something newer

Infiniti has no head gasket problems and it has the 3.0 V6 which is a bulletproof engine, FWD-based transmission which isn't a manual but it's solid for an automatic. Also, Infiniti is made in Japan and the Altima is made in the USA

it may be older but they are better made than the Altima

Well I have owned 2 mazdas and had great luck with them. Plus parts not that expensive. BUT also ask if these cars have any maintenance history that can be proven!

I would not buy the Mazda since those years like 2007 are notorious for rust and their auto transmissions are kinda weak. The Altima with a manual is decent but do not buy one with a 2.5 4 cylinder since they blow head gaskets and are known for excessive oil consumption and destroying the cats, if it's a V6 they don't rlly have those issues unless they are abused. I would get a mechanic to check out the Infiniti since those i30 sedans are pretty good cars (it's just fancy maxima after all and they are all made in Japan) and if it's good, go with the Infiniti.

personally i don't recommend older Mazdas since I live in Canada where older ones are known to be rust buckets

I think every car in Canada is a rust bucket at one point. And yes Im looking for a daily driver. Im leaning towards the I30 or the Mazda 3.

Both are good but the Infiniti has a more solid powertrain. The Mazda 3 engine is good but the auto transmission is somewhat weak and holds it back. If you decide to change to a manual tranny for the Mazda 3, then go for the Mazda otherwise I would stick to the Infiniti.

Truth. Every second car on the Ontario motorway has rotten rockers and fenders.

yup I see that often on older cars here in Toronto
