Nissan Pathfinder intermittent problem with starting

Hello everyone!

Co-worker's 1998 Pathfinder, 4x4, auto with 209k miles.

After it completely cools down, it takes ~5 seconds to start. One time he pressed on the gas while cranking and it started right away. He has both upstream and downstream O2 sensors disconnected because it has poor idle once warmed up, starts shaking etc.
Has no problems running though, just starting.

Has already replaced distributor cap and wires, air filter, battery, spark plugs.

A Nissan with that many miles on it is old enough that the fuel injection system generally will cause those problems. Often it is a fuel pump that is starting to wear out or fuel injectors that when warmed up actually flood the engine out a little and so it has to crank longer to unflood the engine.next time he lets it sitting as a problem don't start it but instead pull out a spark plug if it's wet it's flooded out if it isn't then the pump is probably not working when hot

Hello,

Well if both the o2 sensors are unplugged this will show up as an open circuit fault in the cars Computer (ECU),

The ECU may be trying to compensate for this with the air fuel ratio,

Re attach the o2 plugs read any fault code and proceed from there.

All the Best
