Should I trust the oil change reminder?

I drive a 2007 Saturn ION with the standard engine. I drive roughly about 4,000 miles per year. The other day I notice a message on the dash  to change oil. I last changed the oil on September 4 2021 with  84,846 on the OD. I now have 86, 840 miles. Usually I change the oil at 3500 miles the last interval between changes was around 3700 miles. I drive mostly local with an very occasional longer trip no  more than 90 miles beginning to end. I checked the oil and the dip stick reads full. The color is amber not black or a burnt color. There is no burnt smell. Everytime I now start the car the change oil indicator comes on so I change the reading back to OD miles. The vehicle runs smooth as silk. The answer that I recieved to my last question about my temperature gauge was very helpful. I did not change that sensor figuring based on the answers given that it would be no problem. Based on that I am thinking that something is a bit off with the sensor  for the oil change indicator system and that is why I am getting this message. Even though I have low miles it will be time not miles that affects this ION. At 16 years I should have 240,000 miles base on 15,000 miles per year. I am  correct in my assumption that this is no big deal and just continue to change the oil every 3500-4000 miles wo ? My garage uses a partial synthetic blend.  Thank you

I think you need to reset the oil life monitor to clear the warning.

You will be fine to continue with your changing pattern.

Typically those change oil lights are based on how many miles have been driven since last time the system was reset. So if it wasnt reset last time the oil was changed, the cars computer may think youre over due. That interval is what id do for that style of driving.

If you can't program it to shut off, do the same thing as we do with those stupid TPM systems, put a piece of black tape over the dash light.
