Hello, I'm a relatively new car owner. My car is a 2010 Subaru Forester MT, with ~112.000 Km. My question is about oil changes.
The first time I changed the oil, a friend recommended me to use a thicker oil than the one specified because of the mileage and possibly wear of the engine. I followed his advice and went from 5W-30 to 10W-30. A mechanic told me that is not a good idea to change the thickness of the oil and that left me a bit worried. Nothing seems to be wrong but I want to be sure that this is not something that may bring problems in the future.
Should I stick to the old oil or continue using the new one? What effects could have either?
Thanks in advance
Listen to your mechanic, and stop taking car advice from that friend.
Do not change oil viscosities just because of mileage. You don't even have that much.
Thanks for your response! Do you think I should go back to the old viscosity then?
use what your owner's manual recommends
Gotcha, thanks again!
