Oil Changes

Hi Scotty,

Love your channel.  I live in Colombia, South America, nad I have a 2019 Renault Sandero with a 1.6 liter, 8-valves, 85 horsepower engine.  I have owned the car since new (2 years) and currently have a little under 8,000 km.  I drive only locally, short distances, and here it's 35° C (95° F) every day of the year.  Since I believe I drive my car under what would be considered as "extreme conditions" and don't put on much mileage, should I change my oil every 6 months or can I go a full year?

Oil is cheap , engines are not.

In your neck of the woods, I'd change it every 3 months/4,000 kilometers, or even when you think the oil is/looks contaminated, whichever comes first.

A year is okay on a low mileage vehicle AS LONG as it gets fully warmed up for at least 15 minutes to drive off any condensation. Always change the filer as well, it is as important as clean oil. You can also visually check the oil, if it is anywhere near black, change it.

Good point. Make sure it gets a hard drive about every 2 months or so. Take it on the highway at least 80km/h or up a steep hill so it gets good and hot. If the oil starts to look like mayonnaise that's not a good sign.
