I have an 09 Nissan Versa 1.8 liter motor. I’ve noticed oil consumption in this car. My car do the appear to be burning oil. It don’t smell like it nor is there smoke either from the exhaust. I have looked for leaks and don’t see any leaks. in about 10,000 miles this car burns 4.5 quarts of oil. The oil when i Che Co it smells like carbon. What do I do? Is this normal for my vehicle? Also have changed the pcv valve to make sure that wasn’t the problem and my car is still using oil. So what do I do? What is the problem?

mileage please

Mileage is 167 thousand.

That's about a quart every 2200 miles. I wouldn't say that was normal but some manufacturers would claim it is for warranty purposes.

You didn't state mileage but most likely the engine is wearing out; rings, valve guides, and/or valve stem seals. (If you have only been changing oil every 10,000 miles that's part of the problem.) Best bet is probably to top up as needed and if doing 10K oil changes do it every 5K instead.

Mileage is roughly 167 thousand.

A compression test probably would confirm Chuck Tobias' conclusions.

It's probably the motor getting tired. Small displacement, high mileage....compression test it to see what you get.
