Oil Filter Brands

Hey Scotty, I know you have a lot of experience in the business, and I wanted to ask on your take for the best oil filter.

Is there a particular brand you personally use because of good experiences you've had with them (I've seen you use a STP oil filter for one of your shorts)?  I have heard nightmare stories about Fram oil filters and also not the best things about the quality of the Honda-AO2 filters (made by Honeywell).  I would use a Toyota filter, but they're designed to specifically fit Toyotas and don't seem to fit my Civic.  I'm trying to decide what the best filter to use for my Honda Civic is for its next oil change.

Thanks :).

NAPA Gold filters are made by Wix and are very good quality.

I've also heard negative things about Fram filters. For the past couple of years I've stuck with OEM filters, in my case, they're Motorcraft. Motorcraft still makes oil filters and belts in the USA, which is part of the reason I've stuck with them. Even the AC Delco filter for my 1979 Pontiac is also made in USA, shockingly. I think K&N makes oil filters as well. Their air filters are supposed to be good, so I would think their oil filters are as well.

For a normal 5k mile interval, I would not hesitate to use a Toyota oil filter on a Honda Civic, as long as I confirmed that it fit. Otherwise I would go with Motorcraft. If you want a longer drain interval, maybe bump up the quality a bit to NAPA Gold or a Premium Guard EX.
