Oil Gets Dirty Fast

Howdy Scotty,

Got a 2016 Kia Sorrento LX with 94,500 miles on her. One day on a long trip, I noticed she was nearly on empty for oil between oil changes. I topped it off and a few days later got the oil change and within 500 miles the oil was nearly as dirty as it was when I checked it before the oil change. Checked for leaks with a UV kit and no leaks. Is she just a burner or is something else going on? Started riding her with premium gas from shell exclusively in hopes of removing any carbon build up in the GDI engine. Anything else I can do with it MMO or Seafoam?

Dirty oil isn't necessarily a bad thing. It means the surfactants in the motor oil are dissolving crud and keeping it in suspension within the oil. The nearly empty oil situation is concerningon the other hand. Did you see any evidence of metal fragments in the oil that did come out? You may have damaged the motor running it low on oil. Your exhaust will look smoky blue if you are indeed burning a lot of it.

That's part of the problem. Oil change was done at the dealership as part of an inspection/service package. They said nothing about the oil being low or anything, so idk what poured into the oil pan. As far as it being nearly empty it was low enough for the dipstick to come out with only a drip on the tip.

Make a complaint if it's still under warranty.
