Hello everyone and Scotty... I looked inside my bonnet yesterday, there is liquid (looks like oil) leaking near the side of the engine, I think it leaking from this black hole (photo attached as link) Anyone knows what this hole is? Or what the problem may be. It is a Renault Kangoo 2005 1.6V. Thank you.
The Renault name hasn't been seen here in the U.S. since the 1980s though they have been sneaking in here via Nissan for some time now.
It doesn't look like your photo link is present. (Instructions for photos and much more can be found in the site FAQ.)
You can add UV dye to your oil to see if that's the source of the leak and if so where it is leaking from.
@chucktobias Thank you for the video, I remember watching this when it was first uploaded or maybe after. By the way, if you click on the link between brackets, you will see the photo I am talking about. I can see the oil, I think it is coming from this black hole.
@bananaki OK, I missed that photo link but see it now. That looks like some kind of plug in the cylinder head. Maybe something to do with accessing the VVT? The only engine I've ever seen that kind of thing on are the old Saab 2.3 engines when a plug was installed at the end of one of the cams instead of changing the head casting. That was where the distributor used to go before the design was changed to direct ignition. I'm really not sure what that is on a Renault engine though.
Thank you for the information Chuck, I will clean the area, close this hole somehow, drive for few days, then see if any traces of oil. I hope it is an easy fix and just plug the hole 😀
@bananaki Just make sure it's not some kind of vent or something else that's needed. I wouldn't think so but that plug is there for some reason. If possible try to find a shop manual online for that car.
