One owner 4-7 year old Ford Expeditions with 250-300k miles on them a good buy?

I commonly see used Ford Expeditions that are about 5 years old with nearly 250k+ miles on them for around $10,000.

I assume they are traveling salesman's company cars. They are usually one owner and for sale in the mid west states at the used section of Ford Dealerships.

I've heard you say highway miles are 10-20 percent of city miles. Thoughts?

I wouldn't purchase one myself with that mileage but I'm more stingy than others. The bells and whistles on those go out pretty quick, so be prepared for that.

I would also stay away from anything EcoBoost.

4-7 year old ones right? 2015-2017 have the ecoboost V6, horrendous design. Anything before 2015 would have all the electrical stuff falling apart, but they do have the Trition 24 valve 5.4 V8, which I am not sure is a good engine or not someone else could answer that. The transmissions were 6R80 "intelligent" and "Select Shift" transmissions, again not sure if its good or not, but from what I know Ford doesn't make the greatest 6 speed automatics that end with 'shift'. For that era, complete engine failure is the most common problem, followed by aluminum corrosion (according to owner complaints)

@Mod_Man had enough problems with the many many many Ford products he has had experience with so I can't recommend it especially because of the horrible engine and questionable transmission design.

Those Triton Ford V8 are garbage they lose compression and power after 170k to 210k miles.

Run!!! Honestly its too much for a vehicle with that many miles. You should also see the Carfax report and see if it was a rental or Business use. Generally when they are that the drivers just beat the crap out of them then return them before they really fall apart and can't sell it. If its an EcoBoost I would personally stay away Engine probably on its last leg. Also, if you test drive it floor it and hear for the diff because usually the joint connecting the driveshaft to the diff is wore or loose and you'll hear if clunk or acceleration.

If you want to take a change go ahead but vest advice is stay away.

The Triton engine is one of the worst motors ever made.  I would literally sprint away from these vehicles.

Triton 5.4 V8 was a garbage engine as people said above. You also never know if it was highway miles because anyone could say their high mileage car was highway miles and it could have in fact had hard city miles instead. Get a toyota 4runner equivalent or a lexus GX460 if you want real reliability on a body on frame SUV. The highlander is also highly recommended by me. If you really want a ford, get the thing thoroughly checked out by a mechanic for 90 bucks because you kinda need it with that kind of mileage. Good Luck, man.

Not with that much mileage!  There are better options like a Highlander or 4runner.
