Hey Scotty! I'm a fan of your channel. I have a 2010 BMW 320i equipped with run flat tires. I always used to fill the 4 tires with a pressure of 30 psi. Last week, I filled the front and rear tires with a pressure of 32 and 36 respectively, which are the recommended values. Fuel economy was better, but I started to feel a lot more vibrations transmitting inside the cabin when hitting any small bump or pothole. I'm afraid of causing some damages to the car. Do you recommend me going back to 30 psi? Thanks!
You will wear your tires out quicker running them at 30. I would recommend getting rid of the run flats. Tires act as part of your suspension system. When properly inflated you basically have hard solid rubber for tires. And you will feel every pebble in the road. Especially on a 10 year old BMW. They come with great shocks new, but they don’t last forever.
Run them at the recommended pressures. But since you have run-flats, they are by design verrrrry hard rubber. And inherently very noisy and because the rubber is so much harder will transmit every imperfection you drive over. Your choice for 30psi, but probably wear the tires out faster.
Run-flats give a rough ride because of their construction. The tire itself (not the air) is designed to support the whole car. This is why they transmit more vibration.
If they feel more comfortable at 30psi than 32psi, then just use 30. The 2psi difference will hardly make a difference!
Hey. Thank you both for your reply. You helped me a lot! I appreciate your assistance.
