I have wondered about how the energy from the gases that are normally burned off in the catalytic converter could be harnessed by using a catalytic coating on the tops of the pistons and the cylinders.
But, just on the non-contact surfaces, of course.
I have looked for information on this subject, but have found nothing.
Theoretically, it appears to make sense.
But, would it actually work?

1) The pistons job is to convert the force of expanding gasses. You don't want red hot glowing pistons. That would be very bad.
2) The catalytic reactions neutralize unburnt fuel. Combustion in a cylinder requires fuel. Neutralizing it is the opposite of what you want.

A turbo charger is a much better way to make use of exhaust gasses, in my opinion.
