Hello,

I have a 1999 Toyota SR5 automatic with 451,000 miles on it. I’ve owned it since 2002 when I purchased it with 78,000 miles. It’s been a great truck and served me well over all these years. Currently, I have not been driving it because I need a rear differential and my mechanic has let me know how difficult those are to find (the correct one because he says there are so many combinations out there). I’ve taken it a few places to get a diagnosis but they’ve come back with much higher amounts (twice the price he was saying) and/or said something else was the issue and not the differential. My mechanic for the past 16 years has won awards for another Japanese automaker (mechanic at a dealership) and every time I thought my truck was on it’s last leg, he charged me a lot less than I thought it would be to fix it and get me back on the road. My question to you is, should I donate my current truck or wait until he finds a differential to replace mine?? I’ve gone back and forth about what vehicle to purchase and have come to the conclusion that it would be another 4Runner because mine has been reliable all these years. My last vehicle was a Honda Accord that had 253,000 miles before it was stolen and I agree with you, they are awesome cars but don’t seem to be able to outlast a Toyota(even if they aren’t stollen LOL). If you recommend a 4Runner, which year would you suggest (I’m fine with keeping it for many many years so I was thinking 2020/2021 because the difference in price compared to those and 4-5 years older has been about $6-8k)? It would be an SR5 again.

Thanks in advance and I’ve been enjoying all your YouTube videos!!!💜

This is what I found for 4runner: https://www.autotempest.com/results?make=toyota&model=4runner&zip=90210&maxprice=20000&maxyear=2016.

Only fools buy brand new cars. It's a massive waste of money.

I was in the same situation my 02 4runner blew the rear diff so I ended up buying a 2013 4runner and still have the 02 and planning on fixing it when I get a decent used rear end and keeping both.
