Hey Scotty i was wondering if you could help me out. I have a 2004 nissan 350z manual that wont turn over or start, ive tried 3 different starters last attempt being OEM and that didnt work. the car turns on, electronics work fine and windshield wipers work. Battery has been tested, checked all the fuses, tried jumping the starter, we believe it to be an electrical problem but not sure where to look. my dad and i have check all grounds, fuel pump is working. not sure what to do next. any advice would be greatly appreciated, would make my day the day i can hear that VQ purr
Does the car crank when you hot wire the starter?
No. It varies from a rapid clicking noise to a single click
Have you tested the starter off the truck?
rapid clicking means the battery is dead. Try boosting from another vehicle, and have your alternator tested.
It might be the clutch pedal position switch.
When i leave the clutch disengaged nothing happeneds. When i engage the clutch it tries to do something but doesnt turn over just clicks
Then the clutch pedal position switch is working OK. The clicking you are describing sounds like what a starter motor solenoid does when the battery is weak. Do you have a way to check voltage?
Is it the correct battery for that particular car with the proper cold cranking amps rating?
You have a connection concern somewhere in the starter circuit wether ground or power side. Have you put a socket on the crank to make sure the engine turns?
I'm not sure if it would work in your particular situation, but have you tried to perform the IPDM self test?
Not tried that yet. That will be the next test, thank you for the advice!!
