I have a 1996 Ford Explorer 5.0 AWD with probably around 200k miles (odometer was broken when I bought it; currently reads 166k miles; I fixed it after I bought it). Basically, when I give it half throttle or more, a popping sound comes from under the car. If I release the throttle right after it pops, it doesn't pop again, but if I hold the throttle, I will continue to pop until roughly 15-20 mph. The pop seems to be coming from the driver side, but not 100% sure about that. I don't believe it is suspension related because it seems connected with the throttle and will pop mulitiple times, while the suspension would probably only pop once. I already replaced the driver side CV axle, but I didn't fix anything. I removed the front drive shaft to see if the noise would go away, but the car sent all the power to the front because there was no resistance, duh. I am 100% sure the noise is not the engine knocking or backfiring, just to put that out there. Only pops under harder accelerations. Any help would be much appreciated.
