Hey Scotty,
I explored the possible blown head gasket situation in my '99 Ranger 4×4 3.0 this morning. I rented one of those exhaust gas testers from the auto parts store. I started with a cold engine, and coolant started to rise up in the radiator when the engine started. It basically got to cap level, so I siphoned some back into my antifreeze jug, then ran the test. 10 minutes or so later, the fluid started turning yellow and rising. My thermostat had opened, and coolant got into the tube. I rinsed it out, siphoned more coolant out and ran the test again, with the T-stat open. The fluid stayed blue after 10 more minutes. I assume this rules out the head gaskets being blown. Would you agree? My coolant loss is very slow, so I'm going to try some dye if the head gasket test results do indicate a good seal.
Thanks!
You loose coolant, so either you burn it or you have leak somewhere. When you start the car, does it make blue smoke? I’m not talking about steam due to water in the exhaust though.
