Anytime I notice my voltage gauge going below 14 it starts acting like this. A lot of times it's worse and you can hearing clicking in the dash, the whole dash goes black, will reset MPGs, the warning saying stablitraz, and steering assist reduced drive with care will pop up and if sitting still or even driving slow enough the whole truck will shut off by itself.
I researched this a while back and found a lot of people saying it was the sound damping material trapped under the nut to the ground wire in the dash behind the steering wheel but I fixed that months ago and even replaced the battery, plugs and wires but still no improvement.
Have your alternator load tested.
Is that the simple test that places like Autozone will run?
They should be able to do a basic test, though a good mechanic would probably have more sophisticated test equipment.
There is also a major grounding lug on the truck frame below the driver's door you should check for looseness and corrosion.
