Possible transmission issue on 2012 Dodge Journey

Hey Scotty,

My wife has a 2012 Dodge Journey SXT AWD 3.6l 6-speed automatic with 13x,xxx miles. We bought it two or three years ago and when it's real cold outside and you first start it and take off it doesn't like to shift into the 6th gear. Instead it will stay in 5th with the RPMs between two and three thousand ( at 60-70 mph). Once it warmed up it would finally go to 6th. Now it sometimes doesn't seem to matter if it's warmed up or not. I took it to work tonight and it wouldn't go to 6th so I manually shifted it and it did fine. After having gone 20 minutes up the road I figured it should be plenty warm so I put it back fully automatic. I left a stop sign and got up to 60 and it was over 2000 rpms in 5th gear. So I went back to semi-auto and put it in 6th and it went. When it does go into 6th it doesn't seem to slip or shift hard. It's like it is a sensor or computer issue. Please help, thanks in advance. You're awesome.

I drive the transmission is just wearing out internally typical on those journeys. But you could have a pro hook up a scanner and drive it and see if a sense or something was going out but it's your trip a cold if that's the case

UPDATE:

Hey Scotty,

It's awesome that you answered. I'm a huge fan and tell everyone to watch you. It's been a while but the dealer scanned all the codes and gave me a print-out but I don't know how to upload it. They also said that the oil sensor code can cause it to do that (seems backwards to me). Not sure if I should replace the oil filter housing with sensor because it IS leaking or if I should save the money and drive it till the transmission dies.

I see a lot of communication errors, which would suggest either a wiring fault, or failed control module(s).

If you have a printout and want to upload it you would have to scan it into a picture or pdf, upload to a file sharing site, and post the link to the file here. Or you could simply enter the relevant information here if it is not too voluminous to type in.

probably easiest to just snap a photo with smartphone

This is what is on the print-out:

PCM P06DD Engine Oil Pressure Control Circuit Stuck Off
ICS U0147-00
ABS U0102-00 Local Communication with transfer case control module / AWD-
TGW B1570-00 USB Communication-
TGW B221E-00 Radio Internal-
TGW U0197-00 Lost Communication with Hands Free Phone Module-
PTS B1296-25 PTS Sensor 9-Signal Shape / Waveform Failure
SCCM B23A1-2A Flash to Pass/Optical Horn switch-stuck

I'm guessing the transfer case code is from when I pulled the AWD fuse out during the summer. The viscous coupler makes the AWD kick in just by turning at a stop sign.

Anyone... ?

None of those codes seem to apply to shifting problems. Scotty is probably correct that the transmission is wearing out. Or, it could be normal according to info on this forum:
