Projector headlights on unlit backroads

Just noticing that on unlit backroads, oncoming cars often turn on their high beams as I'm approaching as if thinking that the 2018 RAV4 I am driving has the high beams engaged, aka blinding them.  The automatic high beams feature is turned off and I even double check to ensure the high beams on the RAV4 are not engaged.

I know some of the new Corolla Cross models have adaptive headlights. Do the adaptive headlights help with not blinding oncoming vehicles on backroad *hills* or just for increasing visibility on curves/corners?

I do not own the 2018 RAV4 but in the market to buy a car in the near future. Thanks for any thoughts.

Are they LED headlights? I hate getting those in the face too.

Try standing in front of your car 100 yards away in the dark . What does it look like to you? It's possible they aren't aimed properly.

Or trying waving one of these motorists down and ask them. ... Some motorists are just overreacting jerks.

I recall Scotty is having a video on how checking/setting your headlights.

Waving another driver out in the dark, and on a backroad, might be a good recipe for being shot.

Has that happened to you? It must be a very hostile place.

I have a feeling your headlights are aimed too high. They should have a definite horizontal line, that should be aimed slightly downward. Measure that height at the headlight, and then measure it at about 25' or so, and it should be a couple of inches lower.

Adjust them as needed, all you have to do is use a phillips screwdriver, and there is a little U shaped notch device with teeth in it, put the screwdriver in and turn it to adjust.

Thanks, I'll have my local garage check the positioning. The back roads are super dark and there are lots of little hills.
