PVC valve

Hey Scotty -  I'm thinking about all this as I am trying to fix a couple oil leaks on my engine. You have videos about PCV valve replacement to prevent blowing engine gaskets.  The point is well taken but I'm wondering why the pressure wouldn't just escape via the dipstick and not cause problems. My PCV valve does rattle but it doesn't appear to have any resistance. The moving part inside it does not return to a set location.  It's loose and doesn't appear to be under the influence of a spring. Tell me what you know. It's on a 2000 nissan xterra.

It doesn't pass through the dipstick most dipsticks are sort of sealed when it ends up doing is where the main pressure is it will blow the engine seals and then oil will leak all over the place and cost a fortune to repair
