My parking brake isn't adjusted correctly so I can't pull it otherwise it will get locked while enabled. I'm taking it in to get adjusted by until then will I cause damage to my brake system if I lean a dumbell on the brake while the automatic transmission is in park? Yes I live in a trailer park.

Unless you're parking on a hill you can just leave the parking brake off until it's fixed. I've done that many times with no issues. You can add wheel chocks if that makes you feel more comfortable.

I've never driven an automatic transmission. But I hear there's an order if it's on a hill or if it will roll. You've got the thingy - what's it called? The pawl or something that's like a metal lever that slots into the gears, so you don't want the weight on that. So I think you would put it in neutral, let the car roll back on the chocks (I use a brick for the auto car I'm working on) and then put it in park. The car I've got wont let me remove the keys until it's in park.

If it's a manual then AFAIK you're good for putting it in first gear and it shouldn't roll either way.

My manual trans car won't let you remove the key until the shifter is in reverse.

Hey, I still can't figure out the auto trans from 1997, so that's don't overwhelm my brain here. 😆
