Question about spark plugs

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado colorado with the 3.5 litre in line 5 cylinder. And my question is how often should I change my spark plugs? I maintain the vehicle I changed the fluid and filters when it's recommended but the spark plugs I'm not sure about.

Clarification: Which spark plugs do you have? (Are they iridium, platinum, etc.)

Your owners manual (page 6-6) says to change them at 100,000 miles.

When it wears out. It's easy to test/check spark plugs.

I remove glow plugs and spark plugs on my cars every 30000 miles.
The glow plugs so they do not get stuck and than brake when you remove since one gone bad.
The spark plugs just to check tolerance and put them back. Buy iridium ones, they last 100.000 miles.

No spark plug lasts 100,000 miles, that's BS.  For example, NGK stipulates the life of their iridium plugs is 50,000 mile or 3-4000 hours.

Sure, I can listen to all kind of anecdotal stories about parts lasting forever, but the people who actually make the product have put out their recommendations for the usable life of the spark plug. I'll go by them.

the people who make the product want you to BUY MORE of them.

Fair enough.

With a Chevy that old, the standard recommendation might not hold, so there’s no way to really give you a straight answer.  50-60,000 for iridium, 40 for platinum, 20-30 for copper might be a rough ballpark for general purposes.  But with an older car, if you are burning oil or running rich you could foul your plugs much sooner.

Watch for misfires and maybe inspect a plug or 2 from time to time.  If you get 50,000, great, but be prepared to change them out a little sooner.

The spark plugs were changed at 160000 miles but my problem is 1st thing in the morning on the morning on a cold start when I'm driving down the road the road once I depressed the brake pedal to slow down for a red light or a stop sign my engine blocks down and and continues to do so until the the engine heats up. Could that be a spark plug issue or could it be a sensor issue? Because I do not have any codes coming up or the check engine light coming on. I have the Fixd device and my so-called trusted mechanic whose been real ass as of late claims the problem is that I am driving with it hooked up, but that is not the case. I'm going to be starting a new job next Monday and I need my truck to last at least another year and it has lasted me this long and I have taken very good care of it the last 10 years that I've owned it so I'm just trying to figure out what I can do to ruin the situation.

On one of my cars, I just have 2 sets of high-quality spark plugs. Every 30 kkm or so I remove one set, and replace it with the other one. The removed set I then, when I have the time and mood for that, control for wear and tear, clean thoroughly (by cooking in CocaCola - it works fine 😉   ), readjust their spark gap if needed, and store till the next replacement cycle is due. Been driving that car (Audi AAN 2,2 Turbo) 12 years that way with 0 spark plug related problems 🙂

P.S. For me, it is not that much about money saving   - I am just having my fun testing out how long spark plugs can really last.
