Popping sound coming from rear

Hello Scotty and friends, a few months back I got in a accident and totaled my 2014 Chevy Cruze 1.8L NA i4 with 190k miles(all highway), 6speed automatic.

So I had to get another vehicle, now I have 2017 Chevy Malibu 1.5L Turbo i4 6speed automatic with 34k miles.

My concern is that when the outside temperature is above 70degrees I hear a popping sound come from the rear of the car when I’m driving, after coming from a complete stop like at a stop sign or red light. I don’t hear the sound when it’s under 60degrees. My brakes work fine currently in all temperatures it’s just that popping noise making me mad. I don’t know what to do, should I replace the rear disk brake calipers or just live with the sound and turn the radio up.

PSA, if other viewers have this issue with water getting into the cabin of the car, 2017 Chevy Malibu, have someone you trust to tighten down the third brake light(high mounted stop light), the bolts come loose over time and water will get into the car when it rains or you go through car washes.

Thanks for all that you do and stay amazing.

Well noises are as hard to pinpoint. So watch my video finding the source of car noises. Scotty. If it is popping generally it's something to do with suspension things like Warren bushings

Fantastic, thank you so much, I’ll watch it immediately.

I finally took the 17 Malibu to a trusted shop and found that the popping was from torn rubber bearings in the trailing arms on both sides in rear suspension, after the shop informed me that the repair would cost $1.2k to replace, i figured that i would just turn up the radio, especially since the mechanic said that the vehicle will still preform just fine.

I dont know if you have this resolved as the post is almost a year old but Im sure the sound your describing is coming from the rear suspension knuckles. I have a 17 malibu premier and had the same issue. Noise went away after I changed the knuckles.

I don't understand why you think it's the brakes.  Are you saying it only makes the sound when you step on the brakes?  Also, a video with the sound in question would be helpful.  If not possible, describe the "pop" sounds with respect to some known, common sounds, like a balloon popping, or engine backfiring pop, engine misfiring pop or a finger in your mouth "pop."

Well the sound only happens when outside temperature is above 70degrees and when I release the brake pedal after stopping at a stop sign or red light. When in motion I hear nothing.
