Random check engine light

My wifes 2013 Edge LTD 3.5 v6 with 146 tkm runs great except i had two situations this morning and month ago.

I tried to overpass a car, driving around 70 km/h, when i hit the pedal car actually shifted and accelerated BUT, as soon as i passed the car and returned to my lane, check engine light started flashing and car slightly jerked, i parked immediately, shut it down for a minute or so. Started it and no check engine light anymore. Same thing happened this morning.

Otherwise,  car shifts smooth, sometimes jerks from 1st to 2nd but mild. I double checked the fluid, it seems it have enough, but the color is more likely very light, not red as it supposed to be (i assume).

What you suggest to do?

I really take care of the car, never push it to the extreme. Have to mention however,  we did haul a trailer this summer, moving from Alberta to Ontario, and all that trip didn't had any issue.

Best regards

Quit driving it until the problem is found and fixed. A flashing check engine light is serious in that it indicates a potential for severe damage...usually it indicates a severe misfire...an ongoing misfire will ruin the catalytic convertors in a a relatively few miles and can cost thousands.

The trouble code could still be stored in the computer. Get is scanned at Canadian Tire or something.

A flashing engine light means a severe misfire occurred or another issue that can potentially damage the engine if continued to drive. It flashes to let you know you should pull over and stop the car.

But the car doesn't have no check engine light. It happened ONLY when i wanted to overpass another car and accelerated a bit heavier than usual, to make it shift.

Otherwise,  the car runs smooth, starts normal, sounds normal, once again, no engine light appears now. But it appeared when i hit gas pedal to overpass.

Thank you I read your description fully the 1st time.

The light should not be coming on at all. Even under heavy acceleration. Therefore you have an issue. Even after the light goes out, the information is stored in the computer.

My suggestion remains the same.

Thank you.  I will check this asap.

If your check engine light is flashing while you push the car hard, it has to be checked and never do that again before you solve the issue.

Although if you drive normally and it does not show any code, I don’t think driving it normally can cause serious damage, but I would show the car to a professional mechanic to check it whenever I get a chance.
