Scotty - while i know you are not a huge fan of hybrids my 21 Rav hybrid is great & achieves super mileage. However, recently class action law suits have been initiated against Toyota in the USA & prov of Quebec. The high voltage hybrid cable connection is pre disposed to corrosion and Toyota is apparently saying after the 3 yr /36K warranty is over - Your Problem !#$#@?? It is an expensive repair - $6k . Some owners report problems in the First year ! I am not recommending toyota hybrids now until they come to their senses - I think this has the potential to permanently damage the co reputation ..... I would appreciate your opinion and if there is a preventative solution ? Thanks and cheers --- Neil
It’s unfortunate Toyota is not standing behind their product and leaving it to owners to spend upwards of $7,000 for repairs. For other members considering a Toyota or Lexus hybrid there is a class action lawsuit against them for the defective high voltage cables/connectors:
- 2019-present Toyota RAV4 Hybrid AWD
- 2019-present Toyota RAV4 Prime AWD
- 2020-2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid AWD
- 2021-2022 Toyota Venza Hybrid AWD
- 2021-2022 Lexus NX 350h AWD
- 2022 Lexus NX 450h Plug-in Hybrid AWD

Toyota and Lexus models are equipped with hybrid system cables which go from the front of the vehicles to the rear electric motors. But the class action alleges the cables and connectors corrode where the high-voltage wire harnesses connect to the motor generator (MGR) connectors. Dirt and corrosion accumulates at the MGR connectors which leads to electrical short circuits in the connectors.
So, my suggestion for anyone owning these hybrids would be to inspect the wiring harness and MGR connector from time to time. If there is dirt/grim or hints of corrosion, then clean the components. For safety, it’s best to have a trained professional check it for you.

Even though you may be disappointed by this (and you should!) I guarantee the other manufacturers of hybrids are no better in their quality control and owning up to their own issues.
This is also another reason to wait years after a new generation is introduced to see what issues come up over time. Of course in our society everyone needs to have the latest and greatest now. Toyota is far from a perfect car company and their reliability has slid over the years. It’s fair to say they are past peak reliability.

Naive folks think Toyota can do no wrong, but that is just not true.

Well I agree entirely. I believe they were sued in Quebec and lost and they have to fix them all there now though
