{black}:nerd: Hey Scotty
I have a 2016 Volvo XC60 3.0 turbo six cylinder. 70k miles. I recently replaced the “read” gear, idler pully, tensioner and drive belt. Dealer performed. Now I hear a click or tap when the car is warming up or cooling down. It has no consistent noise; no tick tick tick: only occasional. It’s much like when a furnace heats up and the vents expand. Could it be the “read” seals seating?
Rear Engine Ancillary Drive, READ, is the gearbox on side of engine that links crankshaft to the camshaft drive chain and drives the alternator and the serpentine belt that runs a/c compressor, water pump, and power steering pump. After seeing some cut-away photos, I'm wondering if something is mis-adjusted or not quite right, when they installed the replacement.
Ebay listing of used one to see what it looks like.

Sometimes things like exhaust manifold heatshield, or the catalytic converter or it’s shield can make these noises, especially if the engine is leaking a little bit of oil on them. I’m not quite sure what you mean by read gear, or read seal.
Thanks Thumpy
Volvo calls their Drive Gear a “read” gear. The read seals are the gaskets. I’ve owned seven Volvos over thirty years—each reached 300k at which time I’d pass along to a family member. Never had any major problems until this XC60.
I will monitor for leaks and see if the click-tick fades away. Never did make the noise before the work was performed. But the sound is intermittent and I can live with it as long as no damage is being done.
Thanks again.

Wow, Turning 50 tomorrow and learned something new. Never heard them called that. I couldn’t even google it, 🤣🤣 Good Luck!
