I have a 2004 Yukon Xl 1500 , automatic transmission with 192,000 miles on it.
I was told my rear main seal is leaking, it looses a quart of oil about every 2,000 miles. I keep it toped off and never let the oil be more than a quart low. I tried some rear main sealer that seams to have slowed it down a little bit. I was told the repair will be about $1300, my question is should I repair it know or can i live with it and repair it if and when the leak gets really bad.

i think if youre loosing that much oil 1 quart ever 2,000 miles. you should probably replace those seals yourself, its very easy its not hard. should take you about 4 hours

i had a 2000 chevy cavalier, drove it to california without adding any oil, and turns out i had a seal leak :0 when i arrived i paid 800$ to repair it after 5,000 miles i got a blown gasket. sometimes leaks are very very hard to notice, it can be a little tiny crack that can leak everything in a very long trip. either if you have a leak inside or outside you wont get far in an 18 hour driving trip, but if you keep your rides short youll be okay. if you see leaks like alot of drops then pay the money to have a brand new gasket, i have put gaskets before and trust me, it looks easy but is a very big job $$$. always ask your mechanic if they offer warranty. if no warranty is offer youre just GAMBLING AT THE CASINO 🙂
At this mileage the transmission will need replaced or rebuilt soon. The 1300 turns into 4500 quickly. Resale isn't the best regardless of the oil leak but especially not with a bad transmission. I believe it time to unload it. You could also just keep adding oil and driving it until the trans goes out and then junk it. At this point I'm sure it doesn't owe you anything.
