Hi, Scotty. I recently took out a loan and need a small reliable car, that's going to last me a minimum of 7 or so years. I cannot afford new. I am tossing up between a less than 18 month old immaculate top spec Japanese Toyota Yaris 1.5 (Oct 2019 - previous gen. NOT the rebadged Mazda2), but certain friends of mine are pushing me to buy a Hyundai i30 (similar price, about a year older, obviously bigger car but comparable price), because they say it's the best. I prefer the Yaris personally, as I'm not entirely convinced on longevity of Korean cars once the warranty expires, & I believe Toyota holds value better. What is your view? Thank-you.
My daughter is driving my old 2009 Yaris. 200,000+ miles and zero problems with it ever.

You need a new group of friends.
Listen to yourself & get the Yaris! It’ll probably outlast that piece of junk Kiyundai by 5 times or more.
This is not even a fair comparison. The Yaris’ fair competitor is the Honda Fit/Jazz.
Yaris for sure. Never buy a Hyundai.
Consider Toyota Corolla as well. It might be a good choice for you.
Yaris 100%. No doubt about it. If I could get a Toyota made Yaris in the US. I do would.
No question get the Yaris. I have to admit the i30 looks better so I guess your friends can look at it in the junkyard.
