Hey Scotty.
I have a 2001 Lexus ls430 with 205,000 miles. It has rod knocking. Would the bolts still come loose even if you baby it while driving, or does it only come loose when you can actually hear it knocking
If you really have a rod knock it's due to damaged/worn rod bearings, not loose bolts, and the engine will self-destruct in short order. Unusual for a Lexus engine if it's been maintained and not abused.
Uncommon on the first generation of the IS, but very common on the second gen.
Interesting, thanks for the info. The only time I ever experienced a rod knock was nearly 50 years ago with a severely abused 1965 Rambler that ultimately threw a connecting rod through the side of the engine block one night on a country road. About the last thing in the world I'd expect from a Lexus.
Yep… sadly the early Toyota GR was a mess - its pretty much synonymous with “no compression on cylinder 5”
At first it was the valve train that was causing the issues,
in later modifications the 5th cylinder was just overheating because of poor design…
The true issues was that this engine was impossible to rebuild or replace the cylinder liners on,
And that they used external rubber hoses for the VVT system - these hoses are known for failing and just draining all of the oil…
Also when this engine overheats even the slightest bit, it’ll loose compression on cylinder 5 and 6…

But modern modification are reasonably reliable.
