[Solved] Secondary Air Injection Valve faults

Hi there!

I have a 05 4runner with the 4.7L V8 in AWD with 240,000. Recently I had to have the secondary air injection pump replaced (which, after further research, I see was a common issue with these V8s, to the point the were recalled on the Tundra and Sequioas) I took it to a mechanic who is pretty reliable to do the work, and he checked both of the air injection valves and said they were working fine.

A couple days later, I turned my key pretty quickly and it threw the secondary bank valve stuck closed. I took it back to the mechanic, and he said everything looked fine. He cleared the code, did a few cold starts, and it seemed like everything was good.

Now, maybe once every couple of weeks, the code will pop back up again. So I'll clear the code out, drive maybe another 200 miles or so before I'll see the code pop up again after a cold start.

Am I just getting some bad data that is throwing the code? Should I take it back in to get the valve replaced? Or is it something that I should just live with and clear the code out everytime it comes up?

Thank you for your help!

  • The valves go bad all the time in your mechanic is not very good you're saying is good in the lights keep popping up that they're notorious for the valves failing on those.now whoever replaced the pump was an idiot cuz when you doing that work you might as well change the valves if it's the same mechanic I would make them replace them Free Labor just pay for the valves I would not pay any labor
