Hi Scottie
I watched your video on the 2010 Highlander Hybrid and you recommend not buying that vehicle citing higher overall cost of ownership and not much benefit to the hybrid engine. Is that still true in 2020/2021? The 2021/2020 Highlander Hybrid gets much better gas mileage than it's V6 counterpart. Toyota has been making the Highlander Hybrid for well over 10 years now, is the reliability better and cost of ownership lower?
Thanks in advance for taking my question.
Hybrids cost too much. Do not expect better gas mileage will repay the price difference between those two vehicles.
Good luck and Merry Christmas!
For a hybrid, they are very reliable and can last 10 15 years or 200k miles trouble free. After that, like the Prius', they start to fall apart with repairs and you really can not take care of it without dumping a ton of money in to it. If you want to keep a car for 20 years, get the gasoline one it will last longer. If you buy a new car every 5-8 years, get the Hybrid.
If you are buying new, I’d say hybrid.
My 2004 gen 2 Prius is going on 295K miles. Barely changed the battery this year.
Toyota knows their stuff when it comes to hybrid.
Is it new or rebuilt battery?
I was about to go new. But the price doubled during the pandemic for a new battery, I had to go with a refurb with an lifetime warranty. Hopefully the company is still in business when the battery goes out again.
Probably the warranty for replaced cells only. I believe those will last but there are still other old ones waiting to go out and get replaced.
