- I’ve got an Audi A3 1.9 TDI, from the year 1999 with 90 hp and 340000 km (211266 miles). The car has absolutely no issues, I am buying the most expensive parts for servicing and I am changing the oil and the filter every 10000 km.
The question is should I sell this car for a Toyota celica 1.8 vvti from the year 2003 to 2005. I’ve read across all kinds of forums about the engine problems with this model and I have come to conclusion that only the models made before 2003, with VVTIL engines not only burn oil, but the whole engines just don’t last more than 200000 km.
What they did in my country, in Bulgaria , they did not replace the problematic engines they just changed some parts, that weren’t oiled and broke, basically resetting the timer when the engine will blow again. I really love the style of the car, the sound of the engine and the whole interior is amazing, so if there is any suggestions would be appreciated. Should I do it? If yes how do I know that the car is burning oil? Specific engine does not have that problem?
Looking forward for your answers 🙂
I would sell the Audi before getting into troubles. I would consider a Toyota or Honda instead.
About your question: The oil burning issue is related to the worn piston rings. If someone fixed it correctly and change the oil religiously, that should not be an issue anymore. In the US, finding a good source for rebuilding the engine is not easy and it cost a fortune for that repair, I think this is not the case in your country. If you want to see about the oil burning situation of the car, the easiest way would be checking the exhaust tip for oily soot. You can also take out the spark plugs and check them. More importantly, have your trustworthy mechanic check the car before buying.
Will start saving now, thanks. Although it would take me some time cuz man these cars keep their prices and as I can see for a reason
I would change out of the Audi for sure.
