  1. Hi scotty, I have a 2011 Mazda 3 S 2.5 L 5-speed automatic transmission with 200k miles, not long ago my car started losing power and whining but it still drives and gets me around. I recently changed my engine mounts with my mechanic and he scanned my car, he said the converter was failing and 2 solenoids are stuck on. Since I got this car as a gift i don’t know the history on the transmission services but i know that the engine oil was serviced properly. Anyways i called a trusted mechanic and he told me that he can fix the transmission for 1.4k, should i go for it or should i just junk the car.

I don't recommend "fixing" transmissions. It's a fool's errand.

Either replace it with a re-manufactured one ($3k - $5k), or replace the vehicle.

Do your research. Find the value to get it back on the road, the resale value, and the cost of replacement vehicle, and make your decision.
