Regarding Transmission Flushes..

If the transmission filter is changed before the flush is performed, do you still advise against a full fluid flush? I ask because I have a new to me 2011 Ford SVT Raptor with the 6.2L engine, 6R80 transmission and the procedure for the dealer requires a certain temperature range and process for the flush. I dont know if that's a load of crap or not, but it makes me nervous about screwing up the transmission as I don't know what Ford may have done with these transmissions that could make them require special treatment.

If Ford doesn't change the filter before the flush, I'll do that myself right before I bring it in.  Question is really more about your thoughts on doing this.  It's been really well maintained and I really like the idea of all new fluid. My plan is to keep it for a very long time. I'm already changing out every other fluid (brakes, steering, etc..  Everything) for the peace of mind so the frugal plan of doing the pan drop more often is less appealing (because I need to KNOW everything really is right with it being 'new to me'). But I agree with the concept of doing it that way 100% if the vehicle had been in my possession prior.

Any advice?

NEVER take your car to the dealer for a transmission flush. Transmission flushes serve no purpose and can damage your transmission. When changing the transmission fluid and filter, drain out the old fluid and filter and refill with new fluid and a new filter.

For more info on transmission fluid, check the FAQ.

I guess I'm confused as to how it could damage the transmission if the filter is new before the flush. I'll check the faq
